Here's What We've Been Up To!

First Grade has been a busy place!
We celebrated Valentine's Day with cards for friends, and lots of treats.
 (Thank you, families!)

We learned about dental health with the help of some friends from
Little Sprouts.
(Thank you for the lesson and the bags of materials to keep our teeth healthy!)
deciding if foods would make a "happy tooth" or a "sad tooth"

learning proper brushing technique!
We made different types of bird-feeders to hang in the woods.

And most recently, we have been learning about voting. We read The Three Little Pigs and The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs (as told by the wolf). Then we held a class election -- complete with "I Voted" stickers -- about which story we believe. The pigs won over the wolf, 18 to 7!

100th Day of School

We celebrated the 100th Day of School with many activities tied to 100.

During reading, we read 100 books.

Adding book titles to the list

We hunted for number stickers around the room. When we colored those numbers on a 100-grid, something appeared!

We counted out 10 groups of 10 toothpicks and marshmallows. When we had 100 of each, we got to build!

We wrote about things that had to do with 100.

 What a fun day!

Busy Friday

Lots of learning fun was had on Friday!

Partners recorded each other doing their best reading. Watch for your child's video on his or her Seesaw account soon!

We looked at the results of a science experiment about how tea is made. We made our own (non-drinkable) tea by collecting plant materials from outdoors and letting them sit in a bottle of water for a day.

We did one more science experiment to watch how heat changes matter -- we made s'mores!
watching for something to happen...

Whoa! Look at the marshmallows!

Delicious!
