We are learning about 3-D shapes. Today our room was full of spheres, cones, cubes, pyramids, cylinders, and more! We made them out of clay and out of straws and twist ties. We also used these shapes to construct towers.

Where Would You Live?
We have been learning about differences between the city, the country, and the suburbs. The First Graders worked in groups to create posters to "advertise" one of the types of communities. Their job was to persuade others to want to live there.
We were able to use what we learned in writing class about opinions and persuasive writing in order to present this social studies learning. We also talked lots about what went well for groups working together and how to handle problems that might arise when working with a group.

Problem Solving with Cubes
We tried to answer the question: "How many different objects can you make with five connecting cubes?"
We practiced turning and flipping the objects to make sure they weren't the same as ones we already counted. When we brought our objects together as a class, we discovered there were more ways to connect the cubes than we thought! Each time we had an answer, we found another way. Our final answer was an "at least" answer, because we decided there were probably still more ways.

Happy Spring Break!
Our last day before Spring Break was full of fun and learning. A few of our mealworms have turned into beetles! We did our math lesson outside because we were learning how to add by jumping on a number track drawn with chalk. Just for fun, we had an egg hunt in our classroom.
Enjoy your Spring Break!
