We danced the Mexican Hat Dance.

We also made these pretty decorations, papel picado.

Fun with Chopsticks

We learned that how people eat is a part of their culture. In China and in other Asian countries, people eat with chopsticks. Here we are, giving it a try!

A Week of Cultures

We are learning about how culture is the special art, music, dance, stories, language, games, clothing, and food of a group of people. We are finding out about many cultures. 

We read a story from Africa.

We tried painting some Chinese characters.

We explored a box of items from China, including some clothing...

... and a Lion Dance costume!

A Peek at Art Class

It's fun for me to see what the First Graders are doing in their classes outside of my room. Here are a few hard at work in art class today.

PAWS Assembly

We had our first PAWS Assembly on Friday. PAWS stands for Positively Awesome Woodview Students. We talked about school-wide expectations, and did the Woodview cheer!

Getting into the Routines

The First Graders are doing an amazing job of learning all the routines of First Grade, as we continue to get to know each other. Here are a few students practicing our "Partner Reading" routine. We are sure to have both people able to see the book so that we can read and talk about the book together.

1st Day of 1st Grade

What a great first day we had!

We did some reading (2 minutes of it!) ...

...used math materials...

...and had plenty of outdoor fun!

It was so much fun to see old friends and to make new ones!

 We're looking forward to a wonderful year together!
