Spending our Money

Thank you to Mrs. Pampel for bringing in items for us to buy with the money we earned during Junior Achievement! Thank you to Cornerstone Bank for donating many of the items!

The First Graders learned that people have to pay for needs before they can buy things they want. They each bought a food item to represent a need, a pencil and notebook to represent education, and then they used the rest of their money to buy things they wanted just for fun!
The store is set up, ready to go!

Mrs. Lyneis helped as the store clerk.

End of Year Fun

We had our First Grade party today. Check out this video (about 5 minutes long) to see lots of photos from both classes! (Thank you to Mrs. Piaro for making and sharing the video!)

First Grade Odds and Ends

Here are a few things we have been doing this week.

In Junior Achievement, we practiced map-reading skills and the directions North, East, South, and West, as we drove this green car to various businesses and other locations on the map.

We walked over to the middle school to watch the 5th Grade vs. Staff end-of-year basketball game. The 5th Graders won in overtime!

Our brassica plants are beginning to die, but they have produced plenty of seed pods for planting in the future!

The silkworms are big enough that if the room is silent, and you put your ear close, you can actually hear them chewing.

Our mealworms are still growing and changing. Holding them and observing them has continued to be a favorite First Grade pastime.

This one almost turned from a pupa into a beetle before our eyes!

Our class was awarded the Big Ticket for their behavior at lunch! They have been working on using the appropriate voice level and cleaning up after themselves.

$ Earning Our Money $

During Junior Achievement lessons, the First Graders earn "Wildcat Dollars" for answering questions.  On Tuesday, students determined whether items were needs or wants. They also played a guessing game about different types of work. Their Wildcat Dollars are starting to add up!

Bye-Bye Butterflies!

On Friday we released our butterflies. We had watched them grow since they were caterpillars only about one centimeter long. It was exciting to watch them fly!

We also stopped to check out the dandelions that have gone to seed and talked about that life cycle, too.
