Reading and Math

We have been working on building our reading stamina for reading alone and reading with a partner. Here are some photos from our first try at partner reading today.

In math, we created a graph to show the most popular number between 1 and 6. The number 6 was the most popular by far! We started to learn about how to find the difference between two choices on a graph.

American Symbols

Check out some of the pictures we drew of the Statue of Liberty! We also learned about the American flag, the Pledge of Allegiance, the Liberty Bell, and more.

Reading Adventures, Here We Come!

We have been reading lots of fiction. We meet new characters and go on adventures with them. Your child probably brought home a "suitcase" with the reading strategies he or she is really good at using, and a sticky note with a strategy to practice using even more.

Here's What We've Been Up To!

First Grade has been a busy place!
We celebrated Valentine's Day with cards for friends, and lots of treats.
 (Thank you, families!)

We learned about dental health with the help of some friends from
Little Sprouts.
(Thank you for the lesson and the bags of materials to keep our teeth healthy!)
deciding if foods would make a "happy tooth" or a "sad tooth"

learning proper brushing technique!
We made different types of bird-feeders to hang in the woods.

And most recently, we have been learning about voting. We read The Three Little Pigs and The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs (as told by the wolf). Then we held a class election -- complete with "I Voted" stickers -- about which story we believe. The pigs won over the wolf, 18 to 7!

100th Day of School

We celebrated the 100th Day of School with many activities tied to 100.

During reading, we read 100 books.

Adding book titles to the list

We hunted for number stickers around the room. When we colored those numbers on a 100-grid, something appeared!

We counted out 10 groups of 10 toothpicks and marshmallows. When we had 100 of each, we got to build!

We wrote about things that had to do with 100.

 What a fun day!
